Technical Questions

If my notebook display is displaying lines, do I need a new notebook display?

Horizontal or vertical lines on your notebook display can mean you need a new notebook display. However, a faulty video cable or video card can also cause this symptom as well. Approximately 90% of the time when there are lines you will need a new notebook display.

A good way to help determine the problem is hooking up an external monitor to your laptop. If the lines are no longer displayed, then you do need a new notebook display.

If my notebook display is dim, do I need a new notebook display?

We say a display is "dim" if there is a very faint image, but far too dark to see unless you hold a flashlight against it.

Typically if your display is dim, the problem lies with the inverter or backlight. Moreover, approximately 70% of the time the inverter (which is not part of the display) is the cause of the problem and not the backlight (which is part of the display). The only way to tell which of the two is the culprit is by process of elimination. We suggest that you try replacing the inverter before you replace the notebook display. We do not sell inverters, only notebook displays.

If a new inverter doesn't solve the problem, chances are you need a new notebook display.

Can my notebook use more than one type of notebook display?

Yes, it is possible that more than one notebook display will work in your notebook. Notebook makers don't manufacture their own notebook displays much like they don't manufacture their own processors (Intel and AMD Instead, they source them from the various notebook display manufacturers. Most of the time, the notebook makers use displays from multiple notebook display manufacturers in the same notebook model.
